The main procurement routes
Government e-Marketplace (GeM): the government's online procurement platform, where registered sellers list products and government buyers place or bid out orders. Registering on GeM as a uniform supplier is often the entry point to institutional business.

Scheme-linked supply: some uniforms are supplied under government schemes for schools and skilling programs, each with their own eligibility and process.
What makes government procurement different
- Documentation is mandatory. Expect to provide GST registration, business registration, and often capacity, experience and financial documents.
- Specifications are strict. Fabric, GSM, colour and stitching are usually defined precisely; bids must meet them exactly.
- Capacity is scrutinised. Buyers want assurance you can deliver large volumes on time.
- Process is transparent. Evaluation follows published criteria, often combining price and technical compliance.
What a supplier needs to compete
Registrations and documents ready: GSTIN, business registration, and any quality or MSME documents kept current so you can respond quickly. Proven capacity: the ability to produce large volumes — a manufacturer running 60+ machines and producing 10,000+ pieces a month can credibly bid for institutional orders. In-house manufacturing: control over fabric and quality to meet exact specs. Samples: the ability to submit compliant samples for approval.
Tips for winning institutional orders
Read the specification carefully and bid exactly to it — over- or under-specifying loses points. Present capacity and experience clearly. Submit a strong sample. And price for value across the full order, not just the lowest unit rate, since technical compliance usually carries weight alongside price.
